Mac + Cheese Stuffed Burger

Well apparently yesterday was mac and cheese day... We were out last night, so I thought we'd celebrate in some fashion today. Really, I saw way too many photos of mac and cheese, so I had a craving to satisfy.

I had also seen ideas for mac and cheese as a topping on burgers. I've been trying to limit my gluten since I've been told I'm "gluten sensitive", so I decided to try to make a mac + cheese stuffed burger with a gluten free variety and without a bun!


The process is pretty self explanatory, but if you need some direction, see below!

Mac + cheese stuffed burgers

MAC + CHEESE STUFFED BURGER

Protein: turkey (or beef) Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 35 minutes

(15 minutes for the macaroni, ~20 minutes to cook the patty)

INGREDIENTS (5+): macaroni and cheese, boxed

-

ground turkey or beef (1 lb)

egg (1)

breadcrumbs (3/4 c)

seasoning, to taste

I prefer Mrs. Dash Garlic & Herb

-

additional fillings/condiments as desired

ex. chiles, queso, shredded cheese, etc.

INSTRUCTIONS: - Prepare macaroni and cheese as instructed


- Let macaroni and cheese cool to at least room temperature, or prep ahead and put in the fridge until ready to prep the burgers

- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, egg, breadcrumb and seasoning


- Add breadcrumb until the meat is no longer sticky

you may need more than 3/4 cup - Divide the meat into an equal number of portions

# of patties you make will depend on how much meat you use and how big you'd like your patties

- Roll and pat each portion into a patty - Scoop a portion of macaroni and cheese on half of the patties

feel free to add additional cheese/toppings inside... - Place a plain patty on top of a dressed patty and press the edges together to seal in the filling

- If possible, transfer the prepared patties to a plate, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a half hour to set


- Preheat the grill to 450F


- Arrange the patties on the grill to cook and flip halfway between cooking time (est. 10 minutes a side)


- Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160F


- Feel free to use a bun and top with any desired condiments - customize as you wish


- Dig in!
